You Live & You Learn
Sometimes, you don't have to look very far to learn a thing or two.
One of the many things we focus on here, are analytics. That's right, we're able to actually see when people are visiting our site, what pages they're viewing, whether they're visiting from a desktop, mobile device, or tablet, and what browser they're using. While this is very basic information, it's incredible useful to people like us.
When it came to working on our project for Iron Mountain Forge & Furniture, we found that the majority of their traffic was coming from desktop, which makes sense, because most people will want to view something as large and expensive as furniture on the biggest screen possible. Therefore, we when worked on their site, we wanted to make it look great on a desktop, but also be mobile friendly so as not to alienate those who are browsing on their phones.
For our own website however, we found that our traffic was split pretty evenly between desktop and mobile, if not leaning towards mobile. While the site looks great on smaller devices, it turned out that our navigation could've been better. Our analytics showed that while we were getting a decent amount of traffic to the page, visitors were almost never going past the first page! This is something known as site bounce rate.
We've now optimized our site to drive traffic to pages by providing links to other sections of the site right in the main content of the website, rather than making people use the navigation feature. Additionally, when you would view our services, the "hover" function that showed descriptions of what we do were a bit funky. They also took up the whole width of the display. We've made them smaller, and moved services to it's own page.
Chances are, if we found UX issues such as these on our own page, we could certainly find things to improve on yours. Contact us today and let's help drive traffic on your site!
